Become a Member!
The Institute Library cordially invites women and men of all ages, interests, and backgrounds to apply for membership in our unique organization.
In the spring of 2011, the library began its largest revitalization effort in over a century, expanding its hours, developing new programming and community partnerships, and renovating its upper floor, which partially reopened in the fall after exactly 40 years of being closed. Please join during this exciting moment in our history.
Membership in the Institute Library comes with the following privileges:
- Use of the library's quiet space for reading and study, with free wireless Internet access
- Borrowing privileges from an up-to-date circulating collection of 30,000 titles, with no late fees
- Personal service from our friendly staff of librarians
- Access to daily issues of the New Haven Register and the New York Times and recent issues of several popular and literary magazines
- A unique service in which books may be borrowed and returned by mail anywhere in the country at a low-cost shipping rate
- Input on the library's acquisitions and programs
- Invitations to Institute Library events, including lectures, performances, and monthly poetry readings
- Opportunities to host your own groups and events at the library, from receptions to book clubs
